Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 in Long Beach, California. DuVernay was encouraged by her aunt Denise when she was a little girl. Aunt Denise worked in the evening shift as nurse to ensure she could indulge her passion for art literature and theater in the daytime. She introduced DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay discovered through her example that art can be a vehicle for activism. DuVernay was educated by her mother, with a conscience for social issues, and instilled DuVernay to express herself through art. While DuVernay lived within Compton with her family, she was a summer resident at Lowndes County Alabama where her father's family grew up for generations. The father of DuVernay's recollects seeing the historical march of the Civil Rights Movement across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was located in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. DuVernay toured Selma in the summers and was later in awe of the idea to film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated with a graduation certificate in Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. In the year 1990 she completed her studies at Saint Joseph High school in Lakewood, California. DuVernay started producing for the broadcast industry while she was still in college. DuVernay began her career as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay was able to recall being assigned the responsibility of looking over the house and examining the garbage belonging to one of juries. After being disappointed in journalistic work by the assignments she was given, DuVernay decided to pursue the field of publicity. DuVernay started her career as a junior publicity assistant in a tiny film studio, right after graduating from college. She was hired in 1999 and launched her own company of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency. Apart from PR, the agency also launched several social media and lifestyle networks, including Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
